From 1st October 2021 it is now a criminal offence to make an appointment and to adminster botulinum toxin or cosmetic fillers to a person under the age of 18 for aesthetic purposes in England - even if they do have permission from someone over 18. The only exception is if a medical need is determined by a doctor and the procedure is undertaken by a registered health professional.
The government have produced a guidance document for the public and also one for businesses to help ensure that they comply with the Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act 2021.
Lesley Blair, CEO says 'BABTAC wholeheartedly support the Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act and believe it is a critical first step in the right direction towards full Statutory Regulation for these procedures - which we continue to work towards. Identifying the need for both accountability and legislation to protect the youth first is vitally important as they are the most vulnerable in terms of physical and mental development.
